We aim to find the underlying cause of the difficulty and provide research-based support to help your child overcome his/her difficulties. There are a range of options open to you and your therapist will recommend the course we believe will be most effective. You may have therapy at home, at school, individually or in small groups, depending on your needs and budget. In all cases, we will want you to be part of the therapeutic process to learn how to facilitate your child’s progress at home. Your therapist will also want to liaise with your child’s teachers to ensure everyone understands his/her needs and everyone is giving your child the best chance to succeed.
Intervention at home is usually one-to-one with a therapist. We will provide all materials and resources necessary to work with your child at a time convenient for you. In many cases, siblings may get involved and join in the therapy sessions, if deemed appropriate.
Intervention can also take place at school and could be one-to-one or in a small group with children who have similar needs. Therapy at school can facilitate collaboration between teachers and therapists and encourage generalisation of strategies from therapy room to classroom.
At Kids First
At Kids First SA, we have specially designed rooms, equipment and resources to support children with a range of needs. Our interdisciplinary approach means we share knowledge and ideas between professionals to ensure a holistic treatment approach. We believe that intervention should transfer into every aspect of a child’s life and therefore, we will work with parents and teachers to ensure generalisation of what we’re teaching your child.
Specialist / One to One
You may choose, or be referred, to specialist one-to-one intervention with one of our professionals. These programmes are highly individualised and tailore-made for your child’s needs, based on the outcomes of the assessment.
